Faces tell important stories. This concept created the basis for an interesting three-year project in San Francisco Schools that used the medium of portraits to connect students to world cultures, their neighborhoods, and literary classics. Young Audiences artists visited schools to share performances and workshops with students based upon a theme selected annually. Student worked with their teachers to explore the theme and create portraits. Schools selected the most interesting works to submit to a city-wide exhibit displayed in a prominent business each year. Schools with the most successful projects received additional artists services and materials. One of the most popular themes Faces of Peace and Hope held during the 50th anniversary celebration of the United Nations which encouraged students to learn about world leaders in peace.
