Young Audiences Arts for Learning

Share the World in Dallas

Elementary schools in the Dallas area explore world culture through this program. By asking the question "Why do people from all ages and cultures create art?" each grade in a school explores the art of a different part of the world. The answers to these question open up a rich learning experience for students allowing them to make connections to social studies, science, and language studies. Artists visit the schools to share performances and classroom workshops. The workshops emphasize the acquisition of both skills and context for the art forms being explored. Young Audiences supplies each school with a Share the World trunk which arrives at the school at the beginning of the program. It is filled with books, costumes, authentic instruments, posters and resource materials to help teachers create interesting learning centers in their classrooms. The program concludes with a community celebration where each grade works with professional artists to create performances and workshops for family and community members. This is when they share the world with each other and their own communities.
